Documenting
Cultural Heritage & Landscape Assessments
Much of Aboriginal cultural heritage is not found in artefacts; it is found in places or features with mythological, spiritual or ceremonial meaning. It also is found in the knowledge of the traditional uses of the land including the trees, plants and environment as a whole.
Documenting and understanding the traditional use of cultural landscapes is a specialised field within cultural heritage consulting. It includes documentation of Aboriginal ecological resource use and traditional ecological knowledge, including knowledge of local resources that sustained life, and were used for medicinal or food purposes.
Cultural Heritage and Landscape Assessment goes deeper than simply recording the site’s stories through oral history – it means ensuring intergenerational equity is preserved. Yarrawalk are experts in detailed cultural landscape and heritage assessments.
